Olney Adelbert Danks was drafted and joined the US Army in November 1943. He completed his basic training in spring 1944 and embarked with the 8th Infantry Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division for England shortly thereafter. The 8th Infantry Regiment departed for Normandy alongside other units of the 4th Infantry Division on June 6, 1944, and landed at Utah Beach in Normandy, spearheading the D-Day Invasion. They pushed deeper into France, facing stiff resistance. On July 11, 1944, PFC Olney Danks was killed in action by enemy gunfire. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
