More About Sergeant First Class Bissell

Sergeant First Class Bissell was born the son of Woodbridge and Jane Bissell on June 21, 1929, in Madison, Wisconsin.

George joined the US Army in 1950 and was sent to Japan in January 1951. In 1952, he returned home and married Dolores Fischer of Mineral Point, Wisconsin. They had one child together whom, sadly, George would never get to see.

On July 14, 1953, while serving in Co. C, 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team as a paratrooper, Sergeant First Class Bissell was seriously wounded in North Korea. He succumbed to those injuries three days later on July 17, 1953.

He is interred at Nashville National Cemetery in Madison, Tennessee.
