Staff Sergeant Trilling studied Economics while at the university. He attended classes at the Murray State Teachers’ College his first year, participated in organizing Homecoming and Dad’s Day, and was a house president his junior and senior years.

Trilling drowned after his plane was shot down over the North Sea. He is memorialized at Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in Limburg, Netherlands.
