Trewartha was killed in action while flying in a bomber that was softening up the German lines two days before the Normandy invasion. The plane was shot down near Dieppe, killing six crew-members and three POW. T Sgt. Trewartha is memorialized at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Basse-Normandie, France.
