More About Second Lieutenant Lochowitz

Second Lieutenant Lochowitz enlisted in the air corps while attending the University of Wisconsin in June 1942. He was called to duty February 25, 1943, three weeks before he would have graduated. He trained at Kelly Field, TX, and Coffeyville, KS and was given his wings of commission at Eagle Pass, TX. 2d Lt. Lochowitz had completed 20 missions when he last wrote his family on October 3, and received the presidential citation for destroying enemy defenses. 2d Lt. Lochowitz was killed in action over Italy on October 12 while piloting a P-47 Thunderbolt fighter bomber.
