Charles Herman Krueger

First Lieutenant Krueger studied agricultural engineering and participated in many clubs and organizations at UW-Madison. He was on the Agricultural Council, participated in orientation, and was a member of Blue Shield and the American Society of Agricultural Engineers. He also served as president of Alpha Zeta, Alpha Gamma Rho, and of the Country Magazine. He was also the vice president of the 4-H.

First Lt. Krueger enlisted Sept. 2, 1942.

First Lt. Krueger was flight engineer on the fabled B-29 “Humpin Honey,” which was stationed in India. On the 3rd anniversary of Pearl Harbor, he and eight other crew members were lost when their plane collided with a Japanese plane during a bombing run over Mukden, Manchuria. First Lt. Krueger was declared missing in action, and his body was thought to have never been recovered. However, an investigation by the UW’s MIA ID and Recovery Program determined that one or more of the crew from the front of the plane are interred as unknowns in plots Q127 & Q128 the National Cemetery (Punch Bowl) in Honolulu.

He is memorialized at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Manila, Philippines. He is also memorialized along with three other students on a plaque at the Agricultural Engineering Building at UW-Madison.
