More About Ensign Kraus

Along with Merle H. Longnecker, Ensign Kraus was killed during a night combat training exercise. Longnecker and Ens. Kraus were piloting "Hellcat" Grumman F6F-5N fighter planes. They were practicing mock attacks on each other in the pitch black night sky using only small radar screens for positioning. With no visibility, their planes accidentally collided over the town of Preston. Some of the wreckage is still preserved where it fell.
