More About Private First Class Dixon

At the university, Private Dixon was a member of Sigma Phi. He enlisted in 1943. Following his training, he was attached to Company A, 414th Infantry Regiment, 104th Infantry Division and went overseas in 1944, arriving in France on Sept. 7, 1944. Dixon fought with the "Timberwolves" of the 104th Infantry Division throughout France and the Netherlands before pushing into Germany. On Dec.10, 1944, Dixon's unit was tasked with assaulting the German town of Pier. The assault took place across open, flat ground. He was hit by artillery fire the following day and killed before his unit would be relieved by Allied forces. Private First Class Robert J. Dixon Jr. is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison, Wisconsin.
