More About Second Lieutenant Diedrich

Second Lieutenant Diedrich enlisted into the US Army Air Corps Reserve and was called into active service in May 1943. He completed his training and served as a flight engineer and instructor on bomber aircraft out of Barksdale Army Airfield, Louisiana. 2nd Lieutenant Diedrich was assigned to the 331st Combat Crew Training Station - Very Heavy, an element of the 331st Army Air Force Base Unit. He was killed on April 12, 1945, when the B-29 Superfortress he was aboard suffered an engine failure and crashed 3 miles East of Debarry, Texas. The entire crew of 9 servicemen perished in the crash. 2nd Lieutenant Diedrich is buried at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
