More About First Lieutenant Davies

On November 5, 1918, First Lieutenant Franklin Case "Hap" Davies interrupted his college career at UW-Madison and enlisted in the US Army Air Service. From 1918 until 1919, he served at Love and Ellington Fields in Texas as a pilot. Davies was honorably discharged on June 11, 1919, but decided to stay in the US Army Air Reserves. He returned to UW-Madison and completed his studies in 1922, achieving a mechanical engineering degree, as well as an impressive swimming career. On Oct.15, 1940, while piloting a BC-1A aircraft, crashed in a field near Dewey. Alongside Lieutenant Davies, 1st Lieutenant Joseph C. Taylor was also killed in the crash. 1st Lieutenant Franklin C. Davies is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison, Wisconsin.
