More About Second Lieutenant Damrow

Second Lieutenant Eugene Edward Damrow was a pilot even before he enlisted in the US Army Air Forces on May 18, 1942. In 1941, Eugene Damrow and a friend, Caroline Iverson, made a 10,000-mile flight to the Arctic Circle and returned to Milwaukee in late August. He continued training to be a civilian pilot and joined the USAAF in spring 1942. He became an aviation cadet and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant before being transferred to Las Vegas Army Airfield for training with the 569th Flexible Gunnery Training School. On Oct. 15, 1943, while on a training flight in AT-6A Texan s/n 41-16090, he was involved in a mid-air collision with another AT-6A about 12 miles North of Indian Springs, Nevada. The other pilot involved survived the collision. Second Lieutenant Eugene E. Damrow is interred at Riverside Cemetery in Appleton, Wisconsin.
