Private Jack Harland Cox was drafted into the US Army Air Forces in March 1943. He served with the Air Transport Command in North Africa and in the Azores with the 1390th Army Air Force Base Unit. Private Cox was a passenger in an automobile accident in June 1944 and later contracted pneumonia from which he would die on Aug. 3, 1944. Initially buried overseas, he was reinterred in 1949 at Lake View Cemetery in Chetek, Wisconsin.
