More About Lieutenant Cate

John McPhee Cate enlisted into the US Army on Sept. 3, 1942, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was selected for officer training and commissioned a 2nd lieutenant. He was assigned to Company B, 162nd Infantry Regiment, 41st Infantry Division and fought in the Pacific Theater. He was wounded twice in June 1944. Once by small arms fire and once by enemy artillery. Lieutenant Cate was killed by small arms fire while fighting in New Guinea on Sept. 10, 1944. He is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Ashland, Wisconsin.
