More About Private First Class Brown
Charles Robert Brown enlisted into the Royal Canadian Air Force on Oct. 30, 1941. He was transferred to the US Army Air Forces on May 20, 1942. He flew 37 missions over North Africa and Italy as the pilot of a B-25 Mitchell bomber. Lieutenant Brown was assigned to the 310th Bomb Squadron, 380th Bomb Group and flew the B-25 s/n 41-13100 "Bomble Bee." He was killed when his B-25 was hit by flak over Italy. He bravely kept the B-25 under control so his crew could bail out. He survived the initial crash, but died in a German hospital in Italy on September 18, 1943.
He was originally buried overseas, but was reinterred at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, in 1949.
