More About Second Lieutenant Brothers

James Edward Brothers enlisted into the US Army Air Forces during World War II. Lt. James Brothers was one of the famous Tuskegee Airmen. The Tuskegee Airmen was the first Black military pilot group that fought in World War II from 1941-1946. The group was the 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group. He was a single engine pilot. He trained as a pilot at Tuskegee Army Airfield in Alabama and graduated with Class SE-43-D, earning his wings and a commission as a 2nd lieutenant on April 29, 1943. Sadly, only a few days later on May 8, 1943, Brothers was killed when the PT-17 Stearman crashed four miles east of Shorter Auxiliary Field in Alabama.
