First Lieutenant Boelter enlisted in 1943. He was selected for Officer Candidate School and received a commission as a 2nd lieutenant in October 1943 after completing training at the Adjutant General's school in Maryland. He was promoted to 1st lieutenant soon after. Lieutenant Boelter contracted an illness and passed away in December 1943 at Crile General Hospital in Parma, Ohio after more than a year of treatment in the hospital.
