More About Sergeant Allen

Sergeant Allen enlisted in the Army on June. 8, 1942. He received his gunner wings in Harlingen, Texas, in October 1943. He was assigned to B-24H 42-94927, nicknamed "Sweet Job," at the time of his death. Sergeant Allen was in the rear-gunner position on June 8, 1944. when his B-24 lost three engines due to enemy flak. With the B-24 rapidly descending, the order was given to bail. The port gunner, Sergeant Simon T. McInerey, relayed this to Sergeant Allen, who was heard saying "Okay" before evacuating. He landed near Cottrel, France, where he was immediately captured by German soldiers. During his transfer to a German prison camp, Sergeant Jack Allen was sadly killed by a strafing run, reportedly fire by a British Spitfire fighter aircraft.
