More About Sergeant Goodwin

Sergeant Joseph Goodwin, of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, enlisted into the US Army on April 21, 1861. He entered the Army as a corporal and was assigned to Company A, 5th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. The 5th Wisconsin served valiantly throughout the war in such famous engagements as Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg. Sergeant Joseph Goodwin was killed at the Battle of Rappahanock Station, Virginia, while setting up a cannon on Nov. 7, 1863. He is buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
