Dr. Charles Paul Giessing died at Camp Dix in New Jersey on October 3, 1918 of pneumonia.
After attending Cornell, Dr. Giessing received his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin in 1917. He continued his studies at Princeton as a Proctor Fellow of medieval history.
Dr. Giessing initially applied for enlistment in Madison but was denied because of poor eyesight. Later, he was accepted for limited service and assigned duty in the Headquarters Company at Camp Dix.
