Private Allen enlisted Aug. 2, 1862. He was a native of Ohio. He volunteered to join the Union Army and joined Company "G" of the 22nd Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, nicknamed the "Abolition Regiment." He died on the Jan. 21, 1863, from what was known at the time as "congestion of the brain," which referred to a variety of ailments. At the time of his death, he was in Danville, Ky. Private Allen was survived by a son, born in 1862.
