Second Lieutenant Kellenbenz was killed during an enemy attack on the Village of Lang Ren, Quang Ngai Province, south Vietnam. During the firefight, a soldier was hit just outside his bunker. He attempted to drag the soldier to safety three times and was fatally shot on his third attempt.
