Private First Class Katzman was taken as a Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in South Korea on May 17, 1951 and died while a prisoner at Suan Mining Camp, North Hwanghae Province, North Korea on August 31, 1951. His remains were recovered May 29, 1992 and identified on September 9, 2002. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
