More About First Lieutenant Zender

Lieutenant Zender was inducted in April, 1941, and commissioned in July, 1942. He served as a weapons-platoon leader with an infantry unit that participated in the invasion of Europe.

Lt. Zender's unit landed at Normandy ten days after D-Day and was immediately thrown into combat. His company (Company E) suffered 50% casualties during July, 1944. He was killed in action on July 13, 1944 in France.
