Lieutenant Commander Utegaard served in WWI and reported for active duty for WWII in January 1943. After his indoctrination at Norfolk and Williamsbury, Va, he was appointed public works officer at the U.S. Naval Supply Depot at Bayonne, N.J. In civilian life, he was a civil engineer with the Consolidated Water Power and Paper Co. in Wisconsin Rapids. He died of illness at the Navy hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y.
