Sergeant Daley served under Major Lorenz of Madison in France. During the Battle of Château-Thierry and the Battle of Fismes and Fismette, he served by administering first aid to wounded soldiers.

Sgt. Daley would later contract and die of pneumonia at 127th Field Hospital in France.
