More About Ensign Thurow

Ensign Thurow graduated from Northwestern in 1935 and had been president of his class for four years. His friend described him as being conscientious in his studying and being an omniverous reader. His friend said he was involved in many extracurricular activities, such as sports, band, dramatics and literacy societies. He attended the Theological Seminary in Thiensville until 1937 and then attended UW-Madison. He received his master's degree in 1942. Among the many qualities his friends admired, one that stood out to them was his devotion to family. He had a strong sense of duty and a good hold on what matters in life. He did all of this while being witty and pleasant for his companions, according to a friend. He entered the Navy in July 1942 and was ordered to active sea duty in November 1942. He took his naval training at Harvard and Dartmouth. He died in Alaska of wounds from his service.
