Allyn Adolph Suhr

First Lieutenant Suhr entered the service upon his graduation from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he majored in biochemistry. While there he was was a member of Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Zeta, honorary scholastic fraternities, and Scabbard and Blade, honorary military fraternity. He participated in the student court, acting as a judge. He also held an undergraduate assistantship in biochemistry. 1st Lt. Suhr reported to Fort Benning, GA, June 15, 1942 for officers training. He was assigned to the 28th Division at Camp Livingston, LA and received further training at Camp Gordon, Johnston, FL, Camp Pickett, VA and Camp Edwards, MA. He left for the European Theater of Operations on October 8, 1943, landing in South Wales. His division landed in France on July 2, 1944 and he went into combat near Saint-Lô, and participated in battles along the Seine in Paris, and into the Hürtgen Forest in Germany. 1st Lt. Suhr was declared missing November 13, 1944 when he failed to appear when his company was reorganized after assaulting the enemy in the Rafflesbrand Forest near Vossenack, Germany. He was declared dead a year later in December, 1949, when his status was changed from presumed dead to killed in action upon the identification of his body by the American Graves Registration.
