Second Lieutenant Sommers was the pilot of a B-24M. While returning from a bombing mission against Ban Takll Siam, 2d Lt. Sommers and his crew lost contact with their base at Pandaveswar, India. It is believed that the aircraft crashed into the Bay of Bengal near Akyab Burma.
2d Lt. is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Manila, Philippines.
