More About First Lieutenant Craig

First Lieutenant Craig was originally sent to France as an ambulance driver but later joined the air service. While overseas he had piloted all types of planes including gunning, bombing, and observation planes. He was cited for bravery at Fismes for securing important photographs of enemy held territory.

Then, ten days before his death, he successfully conducted a bombing expedition that destroyed large quantities of German stores. For this, 1st Lt. Craig was decorated with the Croix de Guerre with palm just before his death—he was the first Wisconsin man to receive this decoration.
