First Lieutenant Schoephoester studied geology while at the university.
1st Lt. Schoephoester enlisted in the air corps in October 1937. He was transferred to Connecticut from Bolling Field, Wash. As a graduate of Kelly Field, Texas, he had been with an observation squadron as a photographer.
1st Lt. Schoephoester was killed in the crash of an A-29 aircraft he was piloting along with five other aviators.
