More About Second Lieutenant Casey

In his junior year, Second Lieutenant Casey was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and was “recommended for war certificate by war committee” during his senior year.

Soon after, he applied and was admitted to the First Officers’ Training Camp at Fort Sheridan. After receiving his commission he was sent to Camp Custer, MI where he stayed for several months before being sent to Fort Sill, OK. He was then ordered overseas and sailed for England and Russia with the 339th Infantry in August, 1918.

He died after contracting influenza while journeying to Russia.
