After graduating from the university, Ensign Boorse married Evelyn Glass on January 16, 1917 in Birmingham, AL. Together they had one daughter, Evelyn Byrd Boorse, who was born in Milwaukee, WI August 21, 1918, the same day her father died overseas.
Ensign Boorse was killed in a hydroplane accident. According to the U.S. Navy Burial Records, his body was originally buried in Brest Cemetery (Kerfautras), Saint-Martin-des-Champs, Departement du Finistère, Bretagne, France. It was not until after the war ended that Ens Boorse was returned to the United States and buried in Milwaukee.
