More About Captain Heggestad

During his time at the university, Captain Heggestad studied Technical Agricultural Engineering, participated on the Varsity Rifle Team, the House President’s Council, and the Lodging House Council. He was also part of the University 4-H Club, a member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the ROTC. After graduating, he taught in the agricultural short course and was an assistant in agricultural engineering.

Cpt. Heggstad served three enlistments with the Wisconsin National Guard and was a Sergeant when he accepted his commission as Second Lieutenant in September, 1940. He graduated from the infantry school at Ft. Benning, GA in March, 1941, and became a First Lieutenant in June. He was then sent to Ft. Devens, MA in February, 1942, and promoted to Captain while serving in Australia.
