More About Ensign Goodyear
On Feb. 13, 1942, this Naval aviator was flying an OS2U-3 Kingfisher (Bureau Number 5315) from his duty station, Naval Air Station, Quonset Point, Rhode Island. He was towing a sleeve behind the aircraft, meant for ground or shipboard anti-aircraft artillery practice, when he lost control of the plane and crashed off Breton Reef Lighthouse at the entrance to Narragansett Bay, Rhode Isalnd, south of Beavertail Point. The aircraft was destroyed, and he and his passenger in the back seat did not survive.
