More About First Lieutenant Goldberg

First Lieutenant Goldberg enlisted in July, 1944. He was the Leader of a Rifle Platoon of Company G. During action against the Japanese on Iwo Jima, he rushed forward through heavy rifle and machine gun fire, moving his platoon to a strategic position and filling a gap that could have allowed for an enemy counterattack. He was fatally wounded by gunfire and awarded the Silver Star posthumously for his gallantry.
