First Lieutenant Gilmore enlisted 11 Apr 1942. He piloted the C47 (42-100801), “Piccadilly Filly”.

While towing a glider during an operation, 1st Lt. Gilmore and his crew were hit by enemy flak causing their C-47 to crash. They were all killed in the crash. He is now buried at the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville, KY.
