Lieutenant Gevelinger received his wings and his commission as Ensign at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station in May, 1943. He then spent a year in the South Pacific with a naval task force as the operator of a dive-bomber.
Lt. Gevelinger was promoted to full Lieutenant several months before he was killed in action. He is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial in Honolulu, HI.
