More About Second Lieutenant Duer
Second Lieutenant Duer enlisted in January, 1943 and was later sent overseas as a bombardier on a B-24 Bomber.
The Duer Memorial Gym in Marinette, Wisconsin was named in his honor.
As he and his crew were returning from a successful hit on German submarine pens, the plane was hit by flak, fell hundreds of feet, and the engines went out. The pilot, co-pilot and bombardier were killed and only four survived.
