More About Sergeant Cummings

Sergeant Cummings enlisted 16 Oct 1942. His unit was part of Task Force Herren, attempting to counter Hitler's "Operation Nordwind". He was the recipient of Bronze Star and Purple Heart, among other medals. ' Cummings's remains were recovered in 2018 by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency. He is buried at Lakeside Cemetery in Hazelhurst, Oneida County, Wisconsin. Private Cummings was the first combat death of his entire division. He is also memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing at Epinal American Cemetery in Dinozé, France.
