Bernard Robert “Buck” Baebler enlisted into the US Army Air Forces on July 9, 1942, in Madison, Wisconsin. He completed his Primary Training in East St. Louis, Illinois, and completed his Basic Training in Garden City, Kansas. He was transferred to Eagle Pass Army Airfield in Texas for continued training. Aviation Cadet Baebler was killed when his AT-6 Texan aircraft was involved in a midair collision thirty-two miles east of Eagle Pass Army Airfield on Oct. 13, 1943.
