More About Private Ostrander

Private Ostrander entered the university on September 23, 1917.

He later enlisted with the National Guard on October 15 of that year and received training at Camp McArthur in Waco, TX. In February, 1918, he was sent to Camp Merriott, NJ and then sent to Brest, France on the transport Covington, landing at Brest, March 4, 1918. His first combat service began May 14 and 15 in the First Division, Company G. 28th Infantry, in the Cantigny sector at Montdidier.

He died of wounds received in action the day before while fighting around Château-Thierry when he was wounded by an enemy barrage set up preceding a noon-attack which was not repulsed until evening.
