Daniel C. Schuster graduated from Pius XI High School and attended UW-Madison before enlisting in the Army in 1966. He had been a member of St. Matthias Catholic Church and was active in parish youth organizations. He was killed while serving as a helicopter pilot on July 3, dying of wounds from being struck by enemy ground fire. He was survived by his wife Melody and then-five-month-old son James.
